Holiday Celebrations

Holiday programs, generally held during our shule hours on Sundays, involve all members of our community.

Our year begins with secular High Holiday services for kids and families. Children and families read texts that draw from Jewish tradition, contemporary readings, and social justice themes, illuminating the high holidays’ message of reflection and renewal.

Throughout the year, our celebrations are haimish, meaningful, joyous events. Children and families perform, play games, and join in pot-luck feasts. All join in songs in Hebrew, Yiddish, and English, with texts in transliteration.

Please join us for the following holidays (spelled according to Yivo’s standard Yiddish transliteration):

  • Rosh Hashone (Rosh Hashanah)
  • Sukes (Sukkot)
  • Khanike (Hanukah)
  • Purim
  • Tu B’shvat
  • Pesach (Passover)

We also meet for special events, which have included:

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Learning, Service and Action
  • Student-led protests and actions
  • Family voyages intro Yiddish culture through role play, food, poetry and music: “A Trip to Yiddishland,” “A Glezele Tey” (A Glass of Tea), and more

See our Calendar of Events for more information.
