Teen Community Service Program

We are about the begin the second year of the MWCS teen group! This year the teens will focus on community service.

Approximately once a month, EJ Baliff will lead the teen group in a community service project. Over the past two years, EJ has built an extraordinary program at MWCS. She works with our teens to find out where their interests lie, then suggests, from her wealth of knowledge and experience, appropriate organizations.

Deeply invested and organized, EJ talks to the group beforehand to frame the event, coordinates all the logistics, then debriefs afterwards to help the students process the new experiences. Thanks to EJ, our Workmen’s Circle community has a deeply meaningful program with activities ranging from a breakfast drive and game day at the Coachman Family Shelter, to Hurricane Sandy relief work, to Dorot's Living Histories Global Youth Service Day program.

As high school students, our teens want and need to give back to their community, and EJ's program provides a supportive, personalized structure for them to do just that. EJ is also available to write community service recommendations for the students who participate.

The teen group will also take Jewish cultural field trips, socialize, and have the opportunity to participate in WC parent programs, holidays, and special events like the Yiddish Theater Folksbiene Gala.

Families are asked to join MWCS as Community Members. The cost is $150 per family, or $75 for individuals whose siblings are enrolled in the school. There may be extra fees for individual programs.

As Community Members, families will be invited to MWCS holidays, parent programs, and special events.
