Children's Program Overview
Classes for children ages five to thirteen are held once a week on Sundays, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, at Workmen’s Circle, 247 West 37th Street, 5th Floor, New York, NY 10018.
Our Sundays begin with a shared morning meeting for children and their families. Together we sing, play Yiddish games, and discuss social justice issues.
The students then rotate through three classes that include core subjects (Jewish history and text study), Yiddish class (including language, culture, and reference to Hebrew), music, and social justice.
Teachers develop common themes and projects for each grade level. Students might discuss how humans relate to the earth in the Creation story in core, then learn about urban farming in a social justice project. As they study early Jewish immigrant life, they may learn a Yiddish song rousing women in factories to organize.
